Switcheasy Capsule Touch Review

Posted by Admin on December 31, 2008 at 17:13 pm

Recently I bought a case for my iPod Touch, the case I got is called the Switcheasy Capsule Touch, it is a hard plastic case that is only for the iPod Touch 1G. I got it white because I like the color and I won’t have finger prints all over the case. Here are a few pictures.

Now this case comes bundled with a bunch of goodies. It comes with a Universal Dock Adapter, Two screen protectors (one white and one black), tactile touch pads (stickers you put on your home button before applying the screen protector), headphone adapter (in case your headphones can’t plug in), a video stand, connector protector (protects the dock connector), back protection guard (like a invisible shield), and of course you get the 2 piece case. The case is available in 6 colors, black, red, white, pink, orange, and clear. You choose.

I have been using the case for 2 days now, and I love it. It gives my iPod great shock protection, it is easy to slide in and out of my pocket but one problem I have with the case is that it has no grip, so when I hold it in my hand am afraid to drop it. Other than that and that it adds a little bulk to the device it is a great case. If you would like to purchase it right now it’s $24.99 on the Switcheasy website, but I can try to get you some coupons if you are going to buy it, just e-mail me contact@saltytech.com.

Teamviewer Review

Posted by Admin on December 27, 2008 at 16:51 pm

Teamviewer is desktop sharing program, which is free of charge for non commercial use. Basically you download the program onto the computer that you are connecting to and the computer you are connecting from and then exchange ID’s and passwords, you have the option to make your own password or use a pre generated one.

The program allows you to connect to any computer in the world that has Teamviewer installed on it; of course you need to know their ID and password to connect. You can transfer files from one computer to the other and take full control over the desktop. You can also switch sides from controlling a computer to being controlled. There is also a chat, so you can chat with the person if you are helping them with something.

This software is very useful for presentations, the person presenting has control over the desktop while the ones watching can just watch and chat. The interface of the program is very easy to use too, all the options are located at the top of the window, in the window is where you view the persons desktop, watch a presentation and what not, basically it’s like running a virtual machine.

Teamviewer is available for Mac OSX and Windows, so give it a try if you need a desktop sharing program. I have tried a couple other desktop sharing programs, but this one is my favorite so far. It is easy to use and gets the job done! My e-mail is contact@saltytech.com. If you need any help setting up the program e-mail me and I will try to help you out the best I can.

Outlook vs. Thunderbird

Posted by Admin on December 23, 2008 at 13:55 pm

http://www.smooth-step.com/images/content/outlook-logo.jpghttp://img520.imageshack.us/img520/3071/thunderbirdlogowp7.png

I am a big fan of Outlook; I currently use Outlook 07 as my default e-mail client. I have tried Thunderbird before and it wasn’t bad, not bad at all. The thing that I really like about Outlook is that it’s not just an e-mail client, it’s a lot more. It offers a Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, RSS Feeds, and of course Mail. The reason I am bringing this up is because today I got an e-mail from a reader named Will. Here is the question,

“Hey Michael, I was wondering if you could tell me your opinion on Outlook vs. Thunderbird, I am looking for the best e-mail client and I have stumbled upon these two choices. What do you think, should I go with Thunderbird since I love Mozilla’s browser or go with Outlook 07?”

First off, thank you Will for the question. My personal choice would be Outlook, because it has a lot packet into one program. Now if you don’t need any of the extra features that Outlook has then Thunderbird would be great for you. Both programs have RSS Feeds, so you can read all the latest news within your e-mail client. Thunderbird has a less cluttered interface, than Outlook due to fewer features.

It really comes down to personal preference and what you need out of an e-mail client, if it’s just e-mail and RSS then go with Thunderbird, if you need more features like the ones listed above then Outlook is for you. Well, I hope that answers your question Will, and if you have any other questions, shoot me an e-mail and I might answer it in a blog post or a simple reply. My e-mail is contact@saltytech.com.

New Mac Mini?

Posted by Admin on December 16, 2008 at 17:40 pm

It has been rumored that the Mac Mini will receive an update this upcoming Macworld 2009, but you can’t be too sure with Apple. The mini hasn’t been updated since August 2007, and I think it’s about time. It has been rumored to have the new NVIDIA graphic card but only in the 2.3 GHz model, the new Apple display port, and expandable ram up to 4 GB while it ships with 2 GB you have the option to upgrade. The slower model will cost $500, and the faster model will cost $700. This is $100 less that the current Mac Mini’s, which is great. So what do you think real or fake? Please leave some comments on what you think.

BIA: Hour Of Heroes Review

Posted by Admin on December 14, 2008 at 20:11 pm

Brothers in Arms is a great series that most of you have played or at least heard of. The game has many versions out for consoles, but now it has been brought to the iPhone and iPod Touch. This version of the game is called Brothers in Arms: Hour of Heroes. The game can be downloaded from the App Store for $10, and let me say this “It is worth every penny”.

As soon as you launch the game, an intro will start playing, you can tap the screen and press done to skip it or you can watch it to the end. After the intro the main menu will pop up on the screen. On the bottom of your screen you will have 4 options, Engage which will tell you what mission you are on, the campaign, and difficulty settings. You also start your game from there by tapping the “Go” button. Then you have “Missions”, here you can choose your campaign and see the campaigns you have unlocked so far. Then we have “Options”, not too much here but to change controls of the game such as, motion sensor, and lefty controls. Last but not least, we have the “Achievements”; here you can view all the achievements you have earned throughout the game. Tapping the name of the achievement you can see what you need to do to unlock the achievement. Here is a screenshot of the main menu.

When you tap “Go”, the game will begin to load, while it’s loading, there will be a quote on the screen for you to read. The game loads pretty fast which is a good thing. You and your squad will have to reach checkpoints which are places where your game will be saved so if you die you will be brought to the last checkpoint you reached. On your way you will have to kill the “bad guys” of course. The controls are simple but for me it took some time getting used to. If you said you were right-handed in the options the joystick will be on the bottom right hand side of your screen. If you said you were left-handed then it’s on the bottom left side. The joystick is used to move your character while you move the camera with your other thumb by simply moving it left or right on the screen. There is a little icon on the bottom left-hand side if you are right-handed, which if tapped will fire the gun. On the top right you have the name of the weapon you are using along with a picture of it; there you can also see your health. Tapping the weapon will pause the game and bring up a menu. The menu has options like “Reload Checkpoint”, “Restart Mission”, and “Quit Mission”. Oh and did I mention the graphics are quite impressive! Here is a shot of the gameplay.

Overall, this is a great game and for sure it would be in my top 10 iPod Touch/iPhone apps. The game is just great, a few problems here and there with crashing, but it has only crashed on me once. So that’s not a problem, and I am sure that this problem will be fixed in an upcoming update. I give Brothers in Arms; Hour of Heroes a 4.5/5. As always, thanks for reading!
