Contour Showcase Touch Review

Posted by Admin on January 31, 2009 at 11:49 am

Contour send me the Snowcase Touch for review. I have been using it for about 2 days now and I am ready to give you guys my impressions on this iPod Touch 1g case.

In the box you get:Contour Design Showcase Case for iPod Touch MP3 Player
Showcase Touch
Belt Clip
Instructions

The case is made out of hard plastic and a little rubber to help grip the iPod in your hand. The case covers your whole iPod giving it great protection. The screen is not covered of course but that is really not a problem since you can just put on a screen protector if you are afraid of scratching your screen. The dock connector and headphone jack are covered, to keep dust away. To plug in headphones all you have to do is remove the rubber headphone piece. It is connected to the dock protector piece so you don’t loose it. Here is a picture of the bottom.

One thing I really liked about this case was the rubber on the sides. I wasn’t afraid of the iPod slipping from my hand. I had this problem with other hard cases so I am glad this one has rubber on the sides. The way you open this case is by sliding the lock switch on the right side of the case to the unlock position. Then just use your finger nail to open the case. It opens like a door, I have never seen a case open this way so I thought it was very clever.

The buttons were very easy to get to. It is true the iPod touch doesn’t have many buttons, but on my last hard plastic case the power button was very hard to push. With this case I haven’t had this problem.

The belt clip which is included in the box is really easy to put on and take off. It does not swivel which I really like, and you can use it with your iPod in vertical and horizontal mode. If you are not a fan of belt clips don’t worry. The Showcase has a little black piece that covers the place where the belt clip is supposed to go. So if you don’t like belt clips you can take it off.

This case is compatible with the 8GB and 16GB iPod Touch 1g’s. If you are in the market for a case for your iPod Touch 1g then take a look at this case. It is  $34.95 at Contour’s website which you can view here. The case offers great protection for your iPod and the design is great. Contour also have many other cases for many iPod models and laptop sleeves. So go take a look at this case and all the other products Contour have to offer.

Flip MinoHD Review

Posted by Ryan on January 31, 2009 at 09:39 am

Hello Community,

Ryan Murphy here again with a review on the Flip MinoHD by Flip video.

DEVICE

The Flip MinoHD is a product from Pure Digital Technologies, a great company that has introduced to the video camera industry a great portable camera that you can carry with you almost everywhere you go and capture those great moments in High Definition.

The Flip MinoHD is a tiny, handheld video camera and when compared in size to my HTC Touch Pro phone it is almost identical in size.  The MinoHD sports a small screen for viewing the video you are capturing and only 8 buttons on the entire device.  The MinoHD has built in flash memory where it writes the recorded movies straight to the device.  For great portability the MinoHD requires no cables at all, not even to charge the device.  The data is moved and and the device is charged all through USB jack on the top of the device that is hidden when in use.  The MinoHD saves the video files in H.264 video and AAC audio in MPEG-4 file format and the device shows up immediately upon plug in on the Mac.  Plug and Play!

The MinoHD shoots video in true 720p HD and on the flash memory of the device includes a built in file viewer for both Windows machines and Mac machines.  Inside of this program you can directly upload video to AOL video, myspace, and YouTube.

DESIGN

The Flip MinoHD has a black body and is highlighted with chrome edges as well as a chrome band which http://saltytech.com/uploads/Flip%20Mino%20HD.jpgsurrounds the camera lens.  This is designed greatly to fit in the hand for great portable video without having to hold a big bulky camcorder.

On the back of the device it has a small display for viewing what you are recording as well as past videos you have recorded also the buttons are all backlit, touch sensitive buttons which are only backlit when you can use their function.

In addition to these great features next to the microphone on the front of the device is a red-light indicator which is lit when you are recording.  If you wish to view the data that you recorded without having to play on the computer on view straight on the TV; TV out cables are included.  Also if you have a tripod the MinoHD has a threaded hole on the bottom of the device so you can stabilize your video with ease.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

  • Flip MinoHD
  • TV out Cable
  • Wrist Strap
  • Soft Pouch
  • Quickstart Guide

SIMPLICITY

During use with this camcorder I immediately noticed that this was one of the easiest camcorders I had ever used before.  There were no confusing menus, hard to use buttons/features and am absolutely positive that anybody who does not know much about technology could use the camera with easy use.

Hope everybody will go check out the Flip MinoHD from Pure Digital Technologies, Inc. Thank you again Flip for allowing me to review this wonderful device.

Thanks Everybody,

Ryan Murphy

URL Redirection Services

Posted by Admin on January 30, 2009 at 15:43 pm

What an URL Redirection service does is it redirects to a domain. For example a long domain name like, www.yourdomain.domain.com/mywebsite could be made into www.yourdomain.co.nr for FREE. So why would I want to do this? Well if you are starting a temporary website or just a little project for yourself and you don’t need a .com or .net domain that you have to buy of course, then this is a good solution. Your visitors might not remember that long domain name so that will prevent them from visiting your website. This will mask the original domain so visitors don’t see it when they are on the home page.

Here are a few URL Redirection Services you can try out:

www.dot.tk

www.freedomain.co.nr

www.co.cc

The services are free, but I don’t recommend using them if you are starting a serious website. They will not list high in search engines like Google and Yahoo. Besides domains are not expensive at all, for the saltytech.com domain name I only pay $10 per year from Godaddy. You can use these services for your myspace, facebook, freewebs, or weebly website. So if you need it give it a try!

iLife 09 Is Now Shipping

Posted by Admin on January 25, 2009 at 19:12 pm

http://saltytech.com/uploads/ilife%2009.jpg

The new iLife suit form Apple is now shipping. iLife 09 has many cool features added to the applications. I think the Faces and Places features are very nice, iMovie has a bunch of new features, but I have to say my favorite one is the Image Stabilization feature. No one likes to watch shaky footage, but don’t worry iMovie will remove the shakiness and turn it into overall better video. Garageband now has music lessons which you can buy but there are a few that come for free. iLife 09 is shipping for $79 for the Single User pack, and $99 for the Family Pack!  If you use all of the applications and you think you will use the new features, and have the money, then go ahead and upgrade. Would you upgrade to iLife 09 or keep using the older version?

Windows users are going to love this tool. CCleaner cleans you browsers Temporary File Cache
URL History Cookies, Hidden Index.dat files, Last download file location, and more. The program is great; I was able to clean 3 GB from my computer. That was impressive to me. This program is free to download from their website, which you can find here. If you are a windows user be sure to take a look at this useful program. I don’t know any Mac equivalent program but if you do be sure to leave a comment with a link to the program. To learn more about this program visit their website, just click here.

My Top 5 Apps

Posted by AppleMitch2008 on January 22, 2009 at 17:42 pm

As the app store has recently passed the 500,000,000 apps downloaded, i thought it would be good to share with you my top 5 apps that i myself have downloaded for the app store.

5. Backgrounds.
This is a great app for anyone who gets bored easily of there wallpaper and likes to change it around once a week, or even once a day.It has a huge selection of wallpapers that will appeal to you. With categories such as; Cars, movies, funny, nature, fantasy, music, animals, technology and so many more, you will always find a wallpaper to suit your mood. This is a free app and is highly recommended.

4. Inside Xbox
This app is for people who have an Xbox live account and like to view there own or friends Gamerscores, view what games your friends are playing, and view peoples profiles. Anyone familiar with the new Xbox experience knows that the cover flow-like interface is amazing, for Inside Xbox, this has been made smaller, and is really just a mini version of the dashboard. It’s great fun to play around with, and i definitely recommend it to anyone with Xbox live.

3. Tap Tap Revenge
For Those not familiar with tap tap revenge, it is the iPhone/iPod touch equivalent to Guitar Hero. There is 3 colours and notes coming at you. To get points, just tap the correct colour notes as they are passing the line. With a ton of downloadable songs, its easy to see why it’s one of the most downloaded apps from the App store. You also have the option to play online, and there is a leaderboard per song too. This app is free, but could easily be worth $5. If you dont already have this, Get it now!

2. Ustream.tv
This is a brand new app to the app store, but already a highly downloaded one. It allows people to watch Ustream shows Live or Recorded on there iPhone or iPod Touch. These streams are usually in High quality for such a portable device. Built in is a search button, so you can search for your favourite broadcasters. A great app and i also use it everyday.

1. Twitterrific
Now this is my favourite app for a few reasons. I am an avid twitter user and i use this about 10 times a day for checking and sending tweets. if you’re a twitter user, i definitely recommend this app. The interface is simple but great, not much else i can say, except an amazing app!
