Helpful Website: W3 Schools

Posted by Admin on March 23, 2009 at 17:09 pm

You may or may not have heard about this website but it is a great website that offers a ton of lessons on programing, and best of all the lessons are FREE! If you are new to coding and want to learn how to code in a certain language then check out W3 Schools. You might want to make a website yourself but don’t know how, they have many lessons on different coding languages. Even if you know HTML and CSS you might want to learn PHP or JavaScript to expand how you can develop websites.

Once you read the whole lesson you can take a short 20 question quiz to test your knowledge and see what you still need to work on.

This is a popular website but I had no clue it existed until I was interested in learning CSS. I have a basic understanding of CSS but want to learn how to code it, not use software like Dreamweaver to do the coding for me. The site has really helped me so I wanted to share it with everybody and maybe it will help you!

Here is a list of the programing languages they have lessons on:

1. HTML

2. CSS

3. XML

4. JavaScript

5. ASP

6. PHP

7. SQL

8. ASP.NET

And many more that i don’t have room to list, but you can take a look at all the other great tutorials they have at w3schools.com

iBall Review

Posted by Stuart on March 19, 2009 at 14:40 pm

Sorry I haven’t written a post lately but i’ve been busy with stuff. Anyways, I’m here to review an app called The iBall (Free).

This app has a pretty bad rating on the app store, although I think that’s only because it is quite simple. The iBall basically tells your future (like the magic 8 ball). You ask it a question, shake it, and it will give you an answer. You can also choose between six different responses: Classic, Zen, Weird, WWJD, New Years Resolutions, or Programming Languages.  There is also eight different styles. There is the iBall’s style (crystal ball), gold bling, smiley face, eye ball, black ball, santa, ball-o-lantern, and full-screen mode. I like this app, even if the ratings deny it. It’s a pretty cool fortune teller! I have screen shots located at here.

iPhone OS 3.0 Features

Posted by Admin on March 17, 2009 at 13:13 pm

This has got to be the best iPhone update ever, so many features were added. Not only the ones requested by customers but many more. If you did not follow the event on Gizmodo or Engadget don’t worry, the video of the event will be up soon on Apples website.

So, what were the major features? I have listed below some of them, so take a look!

1) Copy/Cut/Paste

2) MMS

3) Landscape keyboard in All apps

4) Voice Memos

5) Peer to Peer sharing

6) Push Notifications

7) Spotlight Search

Those are not all the features that were announced but are the major ones that got people very exited. The update is now available for developers and will be available to everyone this summer. The update will be free for iPhone users but will cost $9.95 for iPod Touch users.

Overall it was a great event, and I can’t wait until I get my hands on the new iPhone OS 3.0. I am not a developer so I can’t get it now, but when I do in the summer I will go in depth of the new features in this release!

Apple updates the iPod Shuffle

Posted by Admin on March 11, 2009 at 13:57 pm

This morning on Mac Rumors there was a post about an update on the iPod Shuffle. Today Apple closed their stores and later opened with the brand new iPod Shuffle 3G in stock. The new redesign of the shuffle has no buttons, instead to control your volume and switch songs you use the new Apple headphones with the remote on the cord. There are 2 models available, both 4G but one is silver and the other one is black. Matches perfectly with the macs.

There is a new feature called “Voice Over”, with a press of a button your iPod will tell you the name of the song and the artist. Very cool feature and I would really like to see how it works.

The iPod Shuffle 3G is $79. If you want to buy the 2G Shuffle, Apple are still selling it for only $50. I would really like to buy one and play around with some of the new features. I really like the simple and clean design too.

Apple updates iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro

Posted by Admin on March 3, 2009 at 15:37 pm

Yesterday all the Apple Stores were closed, that is because Apple updated the iMac, Mac Mini, and the Mac Pro’s. Here are the updates that were made to Apple’s desktop line.

First off the long overdue Mac Mini update, the Mini has finally received an update.  Starting at $599 with a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB of ram, 120GB hard drive, and the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics. The Mini also has 5 USB ports on the back, the new Mini Display port, Firewire 800, and mini DVI. Here is a picture of the two configurations.

The iMac was also updated, the price has dropped to $1,199.00 for the 20″ model with 2GB ram, 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 320GB hard drive, and the new NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics. That configuration used to be $1,499.0, but now the low end 24″ costs  $1,499.00. The new iMac also ships with a new wired NON-numeric keyboard, which I don’t like at all, I don’t see why they did that. Below are all the configurations of the iMac.

And finally the Mac Pro, the most powerful Apple desktop.  The Mac Pro’s now have the Intel “Nehalem” processor. The low-end Mac Pro is $2,499.00 and features a Quad-Core processor. 3GB of ram, 640GB hard drive, and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB.  Of course you can configure the Mac Pro for your needs so the price will vary.  The box has changed from black to the classy Apple white, not that it really matters but just pointing it out. Here are the 2 configurations for the Mac Pro.

Overall it was a good quiet update and the rumors that the update will happen today were true. It was about time the Mac Mini gets an update so it will grab people’s attention. Good computers, good prices, what else could you ask for? Good job Apple!

Great Wallpaper by: Colis

Posted by Admin on March 1, 2009 at 12:55 pm

I was browsing the web for some new wallpapers for my desktop and ran across a great wallpaper, I felt the need to share it with you guys because I was very impressed.  This wallpaper was created by Colis, who did a tutorial on how to create the wallpaper on PSDtuts, which is a great website that I read very often.  The grass text effect that he created looks great, you can see the full image below to see what I mean:
Click the wallpaper to download it.

This wallpaper will stay on my desktop for at least a week (that’s a lot for me, I usually change my wallpaper every 3 days…) You can tell how much I like it :)

If you want to learn how to make the grass text effect check out the tutorial he made here. You might need to use it in the future. And if you are a designer don’t forget to check out PSDtuts for great photoshop tutorials.
